We’ve also been meaning to post something about Work in Progress but have been too caught up in recovering and this little expedition to do so. Nina Power is a lecturer in philosophy, a well-known blogger (infinitethought.cinestatic.com) and the author of One Dimensional Woman, recently published by Zer0 Books. We’ll be talking to her about blogging as a medium, its role in shaping academic, political and personal discourse, and the different experiences of writing for blogs rather than traditional print publications.

Rosalind Harvey is a translator of Latin American fiction. Dr. Gwen Mackeith is a translator of Spanish and Latin American poetry and fiction, and is involved with the Poetry Translation Centre (www.poetrytranslationcentre.org) and Out of the Wings (www.outofthewings.org) a project that makes Spanish language theatre accessible to English-speaking theatre practitioners and researchers. We’ll be discussing with them the craft of translation and its crucial role in the dissemination of ideas across cultures.

Julia Calver is a writer, a co-founder of publishing imprint Antepress (www.antepress.co.uk) and a student on the recently created MFA in Art Writing at Goldsmiths. She will be reading a recent work.

Mark Pilkington is the founder of Strange Attractor Press (www.strangeattractor.co.uk), which started out as a journal publisher but now also publishes books and the occasional CD. We’ll be talking to Mark about how the press has developed and also about journal publishing, working with esoteric subject matter, and how he extends his work into events, films and salons.

James Bridle (www.shorttermmemoryloss.com) is an independent publisher and designer. He writes and thinks about books and technology at booktwo.org. He will talk about the effects of digital media on contemporary publishing and the possibilities therein.

Okay… so we’ve been busy working with Vertigo of the Modern on our event, Work in Progress, which is taking place on May 16th at the Lexington (96-98 Pentonville Road, N1 9JB). It’ll be a zine and book fair with a focus on writing plus talks/discussion and a book swap and it’s all free!

The launch itself is a night at the Pictures in Dalston featuring a mania of short films, the Herzog documentary God’s Angry Man, live acts, DJs, an Arnold Schwarzenegger based game with prizes and my beautiful face.  It is, of course, free. More details here.

The zine will include a piece about Tom Moore, who will be releasing a book with us later in the year, as well as work by some other of our contributors.
